A MUM has spoken of her pride in the baby son whose memory is helping other sick children.
Melanie MacPherson’s little boy Jack was just 21 months when he died last year of Krabbes disease, a rare degenerative disorder. On Wednesday, seven of Melanie’s friends began a mammoth charity cycle from Prague to Berlin to raise money for Robin House in Balloch, where baby Jack passed away in April 2008. They hope to beat the target of £10,500 raised on a similar cycling challenge from Gothenburg to Oslo last year &ndash and collect vital cash for the charity’s work with children suffering life limiting conditions. Melanie, from Cardross, is delighted the lads, including two of her workmates from Northern Marine Management in Clydebank, are raising cash for Robin House. But just as important to her is the fact that Jack’s memory will live on with every mile the fundraisers cover on their six-day long adventure. She said: “It was such a great event last year, and the guys really enjoyed it, so they decided to do it again and picked two different cities. They’ve been training for months. I’m really delighted they’re doing it for Robin House and in memory of Jack.”
Jack was the only child in Britain to suffer from the rare genetic illness, which was diagnosed when he was just eight months old.
