Readers Nominate Their Star Performers 2009: 16 2009

Readers nominate their Star Performers

May 16, 2009 After a week in the hospital for Jim and trying to recover at home, we had to do the worst possible
thing on Saturday, April 25th. Our cat, Greyson, had been ill and spent a week at Westview Animal Clinic. He was not progressing as we all had hoped — he was 12 years old, had other medical issues and just didn’t seem to want to go on. So we made the decision to put him to sleep so that he could be at peace and no longer in pain. We brought him home the night before and kept a watchful eye all night, helping him roll over, drink a bit of water and so on. He had a very peaceful night, and we were then able to say good-bye. Dr. Debora Sayre was on duty that Saturday, and we could not have asked for more compassion and concern from anyone. If there was ever a good way to say good-bye to a lifelong pet, one you have treated like your “baby” and loved to the end, Drs. Teresa Calvert and Sayre at Westview Animal Clinic, along with their wonderful staff, can make that happen. A special thanks to Penny who spent so much of her time talking to us, giving us options, encouraging us. — Jim and Cathy Leist, Greyson’s dad and mom I would like to nominate our cousin Pat Hannan Singleton for her 35-plus years as a dedicated RN at Ball Memorial Hospital and in private practices in Muncie. She has served literally thousands over the years with her kind heart and generosity. She is equally dedicated to her family. She took great care of her late mother and father and still keeps her siblings close to her and her husband, Paul. She still somehow finds the time on weekends to be with her grandchildren that she’s crazy about. Please let her know how much she’s loved and appreciated by so many. Here to you Pat! — Your family in Virginia — Janet, Sam, Jenny, Sammy, Marilyn, Jerry, and Aunt Madge
I would like to nominate the staff members of the Muncie Parks and Recreation Department who work at Prairie Creek Reservoir as Star Performers. My children and I love to spend time there, and I am impressed by the efforts the staff have made in getting Prairie Creek ready for the summer. Over the last two months we have had typical Indiana weather that saw many cold and rainy days mixed in with some nice, pleasant days. On the cold days, staff still could be found waist deep in the cold water, working to install 360-plus piers in order to have it all done before the camping/fishing season began. All of this was organized before Prairie Creek had a new superintendent. Doug Zook sent park workers out who had never worked at Prairie Creek before, and with the assistance of existing staff, made all this happen before May. Thank you to Elden, Rosco, Darryl, Randy T., John, Bill, Chris, Dorothy and J.J. for all the outstanding efforts they have made so far. New Supt. Bob Patterson has a great team to work with. Good luck in all your endeavors.
