Ready for Island Charity Swim

12:00a.m.
15th August 2009 Sue Lanham will be lining up for Island Charity Swim to raise money for the Nambour and Currimundi Special Schools. Photo: Brett Wortman/184437 Sue Lanham might live in the hills but she is never far from the water for long. Sue, 48, of Mapleton, swims three to five times a week at the Nambour pool, and around Old Woman Island and once a week, a training regime which stands her in good stead for next Saturday’s Island Charity Swim. It will be the fifth time that Sue has lined up for the swim, and her third shot swimming the whole course as an individual. Sue, who has played water polo at national level and swum in open water events, said nothing quite compared to the Island swim. “It’s just a different day. I’ve done a lot of open water swimming races and you’re a bit jittery first, but this, it’s great. You just get out and enjoy yourself,†she said.
“At the end, you come up the beach and you look back and it’s hard to believe you swam all that way, but there’s a real sense of achievement – not just for what you’ve achieved yourself, but for other people.â€
