Organisers of the Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia have announced that registrations for the 2010 event are selling over six times faster than at the same time last year. This year’s event hit the headlines following an incident where tacks were placed on the road which led to the temporary suspension of the race. A 62-year-old man from the Kinloch Rannoch area has been charged with reckless behaviour in relation to the incident. Details of the 2010 event went online on Monday and already over 500 participants have entered. In the first full week of sales last year the organisers received just 108 entries. Jo Dytch, event organiser, said in a statement: “Following Sunday’s incident we were strong in our resolve to make next year’s event a continued success. “It certainly seems that our participants feel just as strongly about supporting the event and are signing up as a result and places are filling up very quickly. This is indeed good news.”
Charity partner Macmillan Cancer Support, who had over 1,000 fundraisers riding in this years event, confirmed that their fundraising total had now reached &pound257,000.
