Valley Chamber of Commerce Issues ‘Chamber Challenge’ to Local Businesses Event Supports Local Boys and Girls Club SHELTON, Conn.–()–Get your swimsuits, bikes, and running
shoes ready for the Health Net of the Northeast 2009 Health Net Triathlon. The USA Triathlon sanctioned event will be held at Indian Well State Park in Shelton, Conn. on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 7:00 AM. Registration for the triathlon is now open at www.trifitness.net. The Health Net Triathlon will be an Olympic distance event, which consists of a 1.5 km swim (just under one mile) in the Housatonic River, a 40 km (24 miles) single-loop bike ride, and a 10 km (6.2 mile) run. Last year’s event attracted nearly 350 athletes from throughout New England and since its inception has had over 800 participants. The Health Net Triathlon will once again offer the largest cash prize of any triathlon event in the state – $1,500. “Health Net takes great pride in hosting the Health Net Triathlon. The event grows in popularity each year,” says Paul Lambdin, President of Health Net of the Northeast. “The event supports our goal to promote healthy, active lifestyles in the community.” Lambdin has participated in the event as a runner since the Health Net Triathlon began in 2005. This year, the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce is introducing the ‘Chamber Challenge’, a call to action to area companies to recruit individual and relay teams to participate in the event (a relay team has a separate individual completing each part of the race).
“The Health Net Triathlon will be a healthy, fun and challenging event, and we’re looking for area companies to take part in the competition,” said William E. Purcell, President of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce. “Anyone who signs up for the ‘Chamber Challenge’ will be offered a discounted registration fee.”
