Registration Open for Durham Amateur Golf Tournament

May 3–DURHAM — Golfers have until May 15 to register to compete in the 36th annual Durham Amateur Golf Tournament, scheduled to tee off
May 23-24 at Hillandale Golf Course. The stroke-play event is open to amateur golfers with an established handicap of 10 or better. Former Duke and Durham Amateur golfer Bryce Mueller, the reigning champion, is planning to play. Anyone interesting in playing should contact Joe Beavers at 210-5889 or at jbeaversnc.rr.com. Mid-May also will be a busy time for the 63rd Herald-Sun Golf Classic, which will tee off June 22-28 at Hillandale. Tournament officials will mail out information to anyone who participated in either of the last two tournaments on May 13, and online registration will open at www.heraldsun.com on May 18. Anyone interested in being added to the mailing list should contact Beavers. The Herald-Sun Golf Classic is a match-play event. Numerous golf professionals in the area are again participating in PGA Free Lesson Month, allowing golfers the chance to get a 10-minute lesson, free of charge, in May.
