Entries are being accepted for the Charleston Women’s City Amateur and Ladies’ Senior Amateur tournament.
The event will be held June 2-4 at Charleston Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is open to female amateurs 18 and older who have resided in Charleston, Berkeley or Dorchester counties since Jan. 1. The seniors division is open to golfers at least 50 years of age as of June 2. The entry fee is $70, and the field is limited to 104 entries. Call (843) 795-6517. Brown posted rounds of 73, 76 and 75 for a 224 total and finished seven shots behind winner Eleana Collins, 18, of Pinehurst, N.C. Brenda Frye of Mount Pleasant was fifth in the Carolinas Tees division, a group that players play from shorter tees and are not eligible for the overall title. Former Charleston resident Bill Smunk overcame a five-shot deficit and won the S.C. Golf Association Senior Championship played this week at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence. Smunk, who now lives in Kingstree, shot a final-round 66 for a 210 total, two shots better than runner-up Gary Shimmin of Okatie. Mike Weiner of Kiawah Island finished fifth at 222, while Frank Ford III of Charleston tied for ninth at 224 and Mo York of Mount Pleasant tied for 11th at 225.
