For the second straight week, the Rio Grande Valley Dorados find themselves looking for answers following a disappointing loss.
After rolling through four-game win streak that propelled them to a No. 5 ranking in the af2 coaches poll, the Dorados (5-3) have stumbled in back-to-back losses where they have fallen short by an average of 22 points per contest. The Dorados are on their second bye week of the season and the break provides the team with a chance to lick their wounds. “I think this (bye) probably couldn’t come at a better time,” Dorados coach Marty Hammond said. “We can heal up a little bit and assess what’s been going and what our problems are.” In their 76-59 road loss on Saturday to Bossier-Shreveport (4-4), the Dorados’ normally-potent offense couldn’t keep up with the BattleWings, who scored on all of their possessions. Hammond indicated that both the RGV defense and offense were to blame in the loss. “We’re giving up too many points and we’re still getting stopped around four times a game,” he said. “So we’ve got to get more stops and be more efficient on offense and it’s not all bustin’ and stuff in the secondary. I mean we’ve got to get a better pass rush and execute more overall.” MISSING IN ACTION
The Dorados were missing three key players against Bossier-Shreveport: offensive linemen Rob Nelson and Garrett Mason and linebacker Travis McAlpine.
