Rotary Charity Auction Items Up For Preview 2009: Auburn University

Rotary charity auction items up for preview

Auburn University football tickets, massage sessions, jewelry, paintings and gift certificates to local eateries are some of the items to be sold Saturday morning
during the Auburn Rotary Club’s third annual charity auction. The Rotary club’s Web site, , will provide a preview of the items this week before the live auction begins at 8 a.m. on WANI 1400 AM, 98.7 FM or http://www.wani1400.com. Rotarian Dan Nichols said he has the best job of all club members this year because he gets to hand out the checks to the local charitable organizations that benefit from the annual event. “We don’t keep any of it for the club,” said club president Tracie West. “It all goes back into the community.” Last year, Nichols said 17 groups, including the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lee County, the Domestic Violence Intervention Center and the Salvation Army, were “tremendously appreciative” to share in the more than $25,000 raised from the auction. “It made my day,” he said. Auction chairman Kathy Powell said this is only the third year the club has done a radio auction for charity, but it draws participation from businesses and bidders because Auburn is “a giving type of community.” Items not sold Saturday by 11 a.m. will be up for auction again online Sunday through Friday, Powell said.
