What is the first thing in your mind when you hear the word “ballet”? Pink tutus? Pointe shoes? Swan Lake? Classical music? Pirouettes? These are just some words that are famously associated with this dance form, but did you know that ballet originated from Italy? The word ballet is from the Italian word “ballare,” which means “to dance.” This dance form has come a long way from its 1500s roots and has undergone so many changes on the global stage. A mesmerizing and magical dance genre, it has captured the attention of so many people worldwide. To keep this art form alive and thriving though, it is important to invest in coaching and developing young talent.
On March 23, 2024, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet will be holding the RWB 2024 Ballet Ball at Fairmont Winnipeg. Their biggest fundraising event of the year, proceeds from this ball will go to their efforts to continue their mission to enrich “the human experience by teaching, creating and performing outstanding dance,” and this includes bringing ballet to different communities and organizations across Canada.
