The event, held each year, honors the high school seniors in the group who have donated more than 3,000 hours of their time volunteering
in their six years with the National Charity League. The nonprofit organization of mothers and daughters aims to promote community involvement. The San Bernardino Chapter has about 150 mothers and daughters involved, the chapter’s president elect Roxie Hornal said. It is the group’s goal to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. Members of the NCL volunteer their time throughout the city and surrounding areas at libraries, hospitals, Santa Claus Inc., Ronald McDonald House in Loma Linda, the Candlighters at Loma Linda University Medical Center, as well as others, Hornal said. “There’s a slate of approved charities” at which the NCL members can choose to volunteer, she said. Eleven young women will be honored at the event tonight, many of whom began working with NCL in the seventh grade and have continued to be involved with organizations in San Bernardino through the 12th grade.
