Niles North students Dana Grabelsky won first place in painting and received a $1,000 scholarship and Vicky Kao won second place in drawing and a $500 scholarship. Niles West students Mary Cate Curran received first place in sculpture and a $1,000 scholarship and Marina Kulakova received second place in painting and a $500 scholarship. Niles North High School students are participating in the Illinois Innovation Talent Pilot Program, by working in partnership with leaders across Illinois to become globally competitive and collaborative innovators. In this program, business leaders, industry associations, government agencies and educational institutions work with high schools and other partners to produce the next generation of innovation talent across the state. Students must be prepared to critically examine and solve complex problems as members of diverse, interdisciplinary teams using state-of-the-art technology tools and platforms. visited the RFID Lab at Oakton Community College. For the third straight year, Niles Township High School District 219 students swept the competition in the Six Flags Great America “You Create the Ads” contest held on Marketing Day on May 8. Students created a 30-second commercial targeting families with the theme “More Flags, More Fun.” A Niles North team captured first place, with teams from Niles West earning second and third place. This is the third time in three years that Niles North has won the top award. Niles West is on an eight-year streak of having teams in the top three. Niles North students Mihir Shah and Pavan Rana claimed first place in the contest. They are enrolled in Broadcasting with Angie Hankes and Robb Barton.
