Jeff Bechervaise says he hopes people show some heart and enjoy a heart-shaped pizza on Valentine’s Day.
The general manager of Boston Pizza on Bell Boulevard said the restaurant will celebrate Feb. 14 by trying to raise money for charity through its heart-shaped pizza promotion. “For every pizza sold that day, $1 goes to charity and helps those in need,” he said. “The $1 donation will be on each pizza, regardless of size or flavour.” The Valentine’s Day promotion has become a tradition among the more than 300 Boston Pizza locations across Canada since it was launched in 1990s. The money raised goes to the Boston Pizza Foundation which, in turn, doles it out to such causes as the Heart and Stroke Foundation, juvenile diabetes and the Kids Help Phone initiative. Last year’s event raised $540,000 nationally, including $1,500 at the Belleville location. “Locally our goal is $1,500 on Saturday and we’re trying to raise $500,000 nationally,” he said.
Heart-shaped pizzas will be sold Saturday from 11 a. m. to closing time Sunday at 2 a. m.
