Sir Ian McKellen visited a City Gateway Youth Centre earlier this week to help launch a charity volunteer project.
Whilst there the 2009 Emmy nominated actor also helped judge a youth art competition saying, ‘It’s always been the best thing about this club that it’s able to bring people together from different backgrounds. I used to cross over the road to avoid groups of young people, now I’ve come here and I’m hanging out with them, I guess it’s opened my eyes to my own community.’
As part of the launch, Sir Ian McKellen urged workers in the area to volunteer to help people in the local community.
