Special Olympics golf tournament set for June 26

They’ll be hitting the links next month in aid of the region’s most dedicated athletes.
The annual charity golf tournament in support of the efforts of New Brunswick’s (SONB) Western Valley region, which encompasses communities from Nackawic to Perth-Andover, is set for Friday, June 26, at the Woodstock Golf and Curling Club. The day-long event will include a shotgun start at noon as well as activities designed to shine a light on local efforts in the SONB system. Proceeds from the gathering will go towards numerous sporting and social efforts which fall under the Western Valley organization’s banner each season. These include a weekly bowling program at the Woodstock Bowlacade, as well as numerous cold weather and warm weather disciplines which are also designed to aid skill and social development for Special Olympians of all age groups. “This is our ninth annual event and we’re hoping for a strong tournament in support of the important programs we provide for our dedicated athletes,” said Evelyn Kitchen, a longtime organizer and developer with the Western Valley Region of SONB. “We are very proud to provide local individuals and groups, through this event, to support the 45 Special Olympians which are part of our many programs.” Activities as part of the ninth annual event will include 18 holes of golf, food to be served on the course, as well as an awards presentation. There will also be a raffle for prizes as well as a buffet meal at the conclusion of the fundraiser.
The event is open to 20 teams on a first-come, first-served basis.
