FRANCISTOWN: A number of organisations and individuals have volunteered to help Culture Doctor, the Francistown boy who is suffering from skin cancer.
Nyangabwe Referral Hospital (NRH) responded quickly after reading about the boy whose face has been totally deformed by the disease. He has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Hospital Superintendent Dr Japhter Masunge said that they would do a biopsy on the boy soon. “He had previously had a biopsy performed and it showed that he has TB but the second biopsy did not show any response and so they are going to do another one to see what they will achieve,” he said. Besides NRH, other organisations that have shown interest in helping the boy are Motor Centre Botswana, Association of Gospel Musicians, Gaborone businessmen, Abel Baisi and Robert Ronnie Motor Centre sales manager Amina Strauss said that she has conveyed the information about the boy to her superiors. “I don’t know how they are going to help him. Mr (Satar) Dada has talked to the mother himself,” she said. Moses Knight of the Association of Gospel Musicians said that they are interested in helping Culture get a decent life. At the moment the boy and his mother are living in his uncle’s house, as they do not have their own accommodation. Knight said gospel artists would like to help Culture by holding a charity show to raise funds for him. “We can work together with the Monitor (which broke the story of the boy) newspaper to secure a venue and tickets and the gospel artists will come and perform and the returns would go towards helping the child,” he said. Knight said that he is still consulting with his colleagues. Several companies and individuals are still finalising ways to help.
