Sporting Clubs Boost Bushfire Funds 2009: Local Community

Sporting clubs boost bushfire funds

Local and community sporting clubs are doing their bit to boost the funding drive for Victoria’s bushfire appeal with a number of events this
weekend. Clubs across the state are holding a variety of fund-raising events including charity golfing, cricket and rugby. The Eltham Rugby Union Football Club is hosting a gala event today with all proceeds going to the Red Cross appeal. Match referees and officials have donated their fees to the appeal. One parent who was simply relieved to be able to bring her sons to play was Karen Cormack, who escaped last weekend’s devastating fire at Kinglake West.
The website developer brought her sons Matt, 12, and Sean, 10, to meet up with friends and forget the trauma they have experienced over the past week.
