Spring cleaning event to benefit everyone ANDOVER — It’s time to engage in spring cleaning.
But this year, before you toss those unwanted clothes, shoes, linens and household items, consider donating them to help others. May 9 is Zero Waste Day, and as part of the effort to reuse and recycle all materials, residents are encouraged to donate goods to charity. A collection site will be set up in the rear parking lot of Brickstone Square on York Street. From 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers will accept clothing, sneakers, shoes, linens, towels, sheets, blankets, dishes, cookware, tables, lamps, furniture, mattresses, bed frames, toys, strollers, cribs, car seats, TVs, radios, phones, exercise equipment, garden and shop tools, books, CDs, DVDs, computer software, puzzles and board games. Lumber without nails, unused insulation, flooring hardware, cabinets, doors, windows, pedestal sinks and vanities also will be accepted. All donations will be distributed to local organizations, such as Big Brother Big Sister, Bikes Not Bombs, Boston Materials Resource Center, Community Giving Tree, Got Books, Lazarus House, Lowell Wish Project, MSPCA and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Volunteers reserve the right to turn away items. For information or to volunteer, e-mail mclundgrencomcast.net. Comcast to help spruce up YMCA
