Bungalow Lounge on 17 Ave.
S.W. was abuzz Thursday night as a crew of ready-to-party people from the media, marketing and advertising industries gathered for the first NABS Spring Into Spring Shindig. The idea behind the event was to further the fellowship between media and advertisers in Calgary, raise some cash for the charitable side of NABS and give everyone an opportunity to let their hair down and dive into some cocktails on Bungalow’s sunny patio. Standing for National Advertising Benevolent Society, NABS is the only charitable organization in Canada that provides assistance to professionals in the communications industry, should they need of help due to illness, injury, unemployment or financial difficulties. “It’s the only charity out there that offers financial support, peer counselling, career counselling and job boards to members of the industry free of charge,” said Lanny Pepler, NABS western regional manager. “Right now we’re trying to create a sense of community within the industry here and to create more of a network between the communications and marketing professionals and advertisers,” said Lindsay Tucker, Calgary ambassador president for NABS. “Our focus is about creating awareness that the charity is there as a support system for the industry, as a lot of people don’t actually know about it.” The other side of the NABS coin is, of course, throwing some really bang-up parties that are open to more than just industry insiders.
