they made sure others saw green too. The 2nd annual Spring Run Charity Golf Event Weekend March 20 and 21 raised $26,000 for two charities: Barbara’s Friends Children’s Center Fund and Interfaith Caregivers of South Lee Inc. Barbara’s Friends provides resources for the hematology and oncology patients and their families who need treatment, education and care at The Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. With a full volunteer staff, 100 percent of all donations go directly to the sick children and their families. “We’re very grateful,” says Ken Shoriak, operations director for the Lee Memorial Health System Foundation. “It makes a tremendous difference in the quality of care we’re able to provide for our young patients.” More than 88 percent of the Southwest Florida children with cancer and blood disorders are treated at the Children’s Hospital, Shoriak says.
Interfaith Caregivers of South Lee provides several essential services to Lee County residents in need: a food pantry, Meals on Wheels, transportation (to doctors, pharmacy and essential shopping), financial assistance, minor home repairs and more.
