Starstudded Charity Ride To Make Pit Stop 2009: Nascar Driver

Starstudded charity ride to make pit stop

NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, football great Herschel Walker and PGA Tour professional Davis Love III are among 200 motorcycle riders on a charity ride
that will make a “pit stop” at the Pilot Travel Center on Christmasville Road in Jackson at 3 p.m. Friday. The Chick-fil-A Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America is in its 15th year. Petty, charity ride founder, is leading a field of more than 200 riders in an effort to raise awareness of and funds for Victory Junction and other children’s charities, according to a news release. Riders left Stevenson, Wash., on Friday and plan to reach Greensboro, N.C., on Saturday. Petty and his wife, Pattie, opened Victory Junction in Randleman, N.C., in 2004, the release said. The year-round camp serves children ages 6 to 16 whose health issues would typically prevent them from attending camp. Campers attend at no cost to their families, and transportation costs are covered, if needed. The Pettys planned a groundbreaking on a second Victory Junction in Kansas City, Kan., during the ride’s stop there on Wednesday. Chick-fil-A President and Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy will participate in the charity ride.
Spectators along the route may contribute to Victory Junction through the Charity Ride’s “Small Change. Big Impact” program, which accepts donations at pit stop locations. The public is invited to attend Friday’s event.
