A CHARITY barn dance raised almost £12,000 for two charities when it was held last weekend.
Organised by Thornhill’s Tim Russell and his girlfriend Moira MacGregor, the money will be divided between Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Cardiomyopathy Association. The pair, who are also planning to run the New York marathon this November to raise even more funds, chose the latter charity specifically in memory of Doune’s Callum Ferrier. The 16-year-old died suddenly last year in his sleep, having gone to bed complaining of a headache. It was later discovered the keen Rangers fan had been suffering from undiagnosed heart muscle weakness Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Moira said: “Tim knew Callum and it just seemed like a good way to remember him and to do something useful that would help make sure more can be done to raise awareness of this condition. “A lot of the money was raised through a charity auction and raffle as well as from ticket sales for the dance and we would just like to thank everyone who contributed.”
Among those receiving special thanks were Tim’s bosses the Burnetts at Upper Spittalton Farm where he works as a stockman.
