Organised by Conlan Tennis and Moonee Valley police, the gala night last month attracted more than 100 guests.
They were treated to live entertainment, food and a charity auction. The money raised, in partnership with Tennis Victoria, will go towards rebuilding the tennis court complex at Flowerdale. Flowerdale lost 265 houses and 13 residents in the Black Saturday blaze. Organiser Phil Conlan said he “wanted to provide practical assistance that would help lift the community’s spirit”. Mr Conlan said that with the town’s sports fields out of action and occupied by temporary accommodation, the Flowerdale Tennis Club had been opened to the general community and would eventually require extensive re-surfacing.
