What’s the coolest way to celebrate National Ice Cream Day? By enjoying delicious ice cream, jamming to live music, sampling great food, and spending time with the community! That’s exactly what awaits you at The Shalom Project’s The Big Chill on July 18 at Knollwood Baptist Church. As organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year, proceeds from this event will support The Shalom Project’s programs for disenfranchised and oppressed individuals and families, such as its Food Pantry & Diaper Bank, Medical Clinic, and Pharmacy.
July 18; 1:00PM – 4:00PM
Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood St, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, United States
The Big Chill is our biggest and most exciting fundraising event of the year! Each July, to celebrate National Ice Cream Day, we host a huge ice-cream-themed celebration, complete with live music, food trucks, face painting, and more.
A dozen or so community organizations and faith groups will prepare gallons of homemade ice cream for event goers to enjoy, and at the end of the event, celebrity judges will determine which homemade ice cream is the winner. Event attendees can also vote for their favorite ice cream by donating at that group’s station or on their event fundraising page. The ice cream with the most money raised by the end of the event is crowned with the “People’s Choice” Award.
The other “chill” part of The Big Chill is our “Cold Callers” or ice sitters. They are the folks who take turns sitting on large blocks of ice and calling friends, family, coworkers, and more, encouraging them to donate to The Shalom Project.
If you’re an ice cream enthusiast, you’ve probably experienced brain freeze—that sudden headache that comes from eating ice cream a little too quickly. At The Shalom Project’s The Big Chill on July 18, there’s no need to rush. With gallons of ice cream waiting to be enjoyed, you can take your sweet time savoring each scoop. See you at the sweetest and coolest event of the summer, North Carolinians!
