The Figures Just Aren39t There 2009: Giraffes Carousel

The figures just aren39t there

Giraffes, carousel horses, frogs and the occasional mythical character.
All sure-fire signs that it’s summer in Naperville. But those flamboyantly decorated mermaids and ladybugs are summer symbols of the past — at least for now — as the United Way of the DuPage Area has decided not to hold its downtown sculpture display and auction this year. For the past eight years, the United Way’s summertime sculpture display downtown and the auctioning of the sculptures in September has raised thousands of dollars for local organizations. Here’s a breakdown of how much money was raised each year: 2001: Giraffe theme raised $143,730 2002: Carousel horses theme raised $157,500 2003: Bears theme raised $130,000
2004: Farm animal theme raised $120,000
