As summer progresses and temperatures rise, the need for blood donations increases as well.
Last week, six of the eight blood types dropped to critically low levels at less than a half day supply each. In order to meet the needs of patients in 39 local hospitals, the region needs to maintain a minimum three-day supply of all eight blood types. Citizens of Vinton County will have a chance to help with this critical need.
Appointments to donate blood at the bloodmobile can be made by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE and walk-ins are welcome. Most healthy people who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate every 56 days.
