Travelers To Extend Deal With Golf Tournament 2009: Joe Morelli

Travelers to extend deal with golf tournament

Joe Morelli, Register Staff Sources have indicated that Travelers will extend its association with the Travelers Championship golf tournament through at least 2012.
The tournament is held annually at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. Expected to be in attendance, or join it via teleconference, includes PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem and Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell. Sources indicated that Rell will be the honorary chairperson of this year’s Travelers, the 58th year of the event. Travelers saved the tournament from extinction from the PGA Tour. In January of 2006, the PGA Tour relegated the tournament to the Fall Series after Buick ended its three-year agreement with the event after the 2006 tournament. The Greater Hartford Jaycees and the tournament committee chose to reject the Fall Series and seek an event on the Champions Tour. A spot opened up on the 2007 Fed Ex Cup schedule a week before the tournament was to become a Champions Tour event. You must be logged in to post a comment.
