YOUNG footballers from Tavistock Town recorded a unique treble at a charity fundraising tournament.
Players battled high winds and showers to win the Son-Rise Cup. Tavistock Town FC came out with a trio of trophies – their under-nines won the junior cup, the under-14s won their section and the special needs team, TYCP United, defeated a side from Newton Abbot, Newton Soccability. Adult teams also took part in the tournament – the Son-Rise Cup was won by Tavi Tyres and Union United, who beat Morrisons’ Galacticos 3-2. Tavistock Youth Cafe Plus chairwoman Cathy Sharp said that the event had raised around £1,500 profit for the good causes. She said the annual event had become so successful it might be extended to two days next year. Mrs Sharp added: “We’re delighted with the amount of money raised and are very grateful for the level of support that everyone in Tavistock has given to this event.
“We’ve had stacks of help from the whole town and we’re looking to make the event even bigger and better next year.”
