Valero Texas Open Helps Raise Millions For Charity 2009: Valero Texas

Valero Texas Open helps raise millions for charity

The Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic together raised $8 million for children’s charities.
Valero employees will decide which children’s charities will benefit from the funds. Company officials point out that the $8 million in charity was raised despite the national economic downturn and the short turnaround time between last fall’s 2008 Valero Texas Open and this year’s tournament. The 2009 tournament is being held in the spring for the first time in more than 40 years. The Valero Texas Open is organized by Golf San Antonio, which raises charitable dollars through various pro-am golf tournaments, the Birdies for Charity program and the Chip In for Schools program. San Antonio-based (NYSE: VLO) is an oil refining and marketing company that owns 16 refineries throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
