Valley Cop Wins Dream Golf Contest 2009: Larry Giebelhausen

Valley cop wins dream golf contest

Larry Giebelhausen has blown his cover.
The Phoenix police lieutenant has gained name recognition the past two weeks and soon will be a familiar face when he plays a nationally televised round of golf with Michael Jordan, Justin Timberlake and Ben Roethlisberger. “A couple weeks ago, you could have googled me and come up empty,” said Giebelhausen, a former Chicago street cop who has served in law enforcement for 40 years. “Now, I can never work undercover again. But maybe that’s a good thing. “This has been a wild ride already, and it’s only going to get better from here on out.” The foursome will play the Bethpage Black course in New York on June 12, the Friday before the Open starts. Highlights of their round will be aired by NBC right before the start of the final round on Father’s Day. Giebelhausen might need that long to calm down. “Excited, thrilled, ecstatic, astounded,” he said, “I can’t come up with enough words.”
What he did come up with was a clever six-word essay, which all entrants had to submit. His entry: “I’m a cop. I’ll shoot low.”
