Walk Keeps Memory Of Our Helen Alive 2009: Involved Charity

Walk keeps memory of our Helen alive

Get involved A CHARITY walk in memory of a 24-year-old who lost her life to meningitis is set to take place for an eighth
year. Over the years the fundraiser in memory of Helen Laing has raised more than &pound62,000 to support the fight against meningitis. This year the 5.5 mile walk from Osmotherley takes place on Sunday, May 10. Sue and Terry Laing, of Hartburn, lost daughter Helen to the meningococcal septicaemia strain of the disease in 2001. The nursery nurse was rushed to North Tees Hospital when she suddenly became seriously ill. When she arrived at the hospital, a rash appeared all over her body. She was put on a life support machine while her body battled the infection, but she lost her fight for life five days later.
Since then Sue and Terry have organised an annual walk for Meningitis UK to raise awareness of the disease.
