Warming Up For Charity Match 2009: Two Football

Warming up for charity match

TWO football teams from New Waltham will go head-to-head at Blundell Park in a bid to raise cash for charity.
AA Property and SW Steelers, who play in the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District Sunday League, will contest the second annual Pete Smith Memorial at the home of Grimsby Town on May 4. AA Property set up the tribute match in memory of their former manager, who died on New Year’s Day 2007. This season, the Division Six side will take on Division Four opponents SW Steelers, who will play in memory of Ian Ashworth, a former Steelers player, who died in 2008, aged 36. Money raised will go to When You Wish Upon a Star and the Women and Children’s Fund. Last year’s match, at Greenlands sports ground, in New Waltham, raised more than £800. It helped pay for a group of children suffering with life-threatening illness to visit Lapland at Christmas.
AA Property full-back Greg Kavanagh said: “Last year, we managed to raise a great sum of money and that was only at a sports club.
