MIRAMICHI – There wasn’t a dry mouth in the house as Miramichiers took in a wine and beer tasting at the Rodd Miramichi River
Friday. With guide books in hand, more than 200 people crowded into the hotel’s banquet room to sample wine and beer from around the world, provided by 13 suppliers. Jamie Acker was one of the brokers on hand at the event and had six different wines laid out on his table for people to taste. “It gives people an opportunity to try wines they wouldn’t normally buy,” he said. As people wandered over to his table, glass in hand, he explained the differences in the types of wine, where they came from and sometimes gave advice on what food to eat with them. Acker had three whites and three reds on hand. When asked which was his favourite, he said he like the Australian Shiraz because it was a big wine typically drank with food. “It still holds up on its own.”
Buckets were scattered around the room for patrons to dump their glasses after sampling, but they were slow to fill at first as people enjoyed the wines and beers on offer.
