Leadership can be a lot of work.
Members of an Albemarle High School leadership class are learning that up close and personal as they organize, arrange, promote and, finally, present the 5K for MACAA fundraising footrace on March 7. It’s not a task for slackers. A lot more than a race To put together a road race, you have to have a route. For the March 7 run, the students chose a route similar to the Kiwanis Fourth of July 5K race through Forest Lakes. You have to arrange parking — in the Forest Lake Food Lion parking lot — and get as many ducks as you can find to stand in a line. Part of leadership is getting good ducks to back you up. That’s where the class comes in handy. “The class brings student leaders together and helps them focus on leadership skills so they can become better at leading others,” said Mason Wood, a senior in the class who is working on the race. “We get into groups and discuss what we’d like to do and then find ways to get it done.”
Leadership is choosing the best duck for the job.
