Currently, there are 55 million people worldwide who have dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common type. According to the World Health Organization, it is the “seventh leading cause of death and one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people globally.” Over time, folks with dementia lose their memory and their ability to think and perform daily activities. From forgetting the names of places and important dates, to not being able to recall how to eat or dress themselves up, these are just some of the symptoms that people with dementia experience. This illness greatly affects not just the patients, but their loved ones as well, which is why Alzheimer’s Support, a UK-based charity, was established.
Alzheimer’s Support has programs such as Home Support, Activity Groups, Day Care, and Dementia Advisers, to help both patients and their loved ones cope with the effects of the disease. These can be costly though and so on December 3, they’ll be having a fundraising event entitled Christmas Carol Concert 2023 at Seend Community Centre.
Join us on Sunday 3rd December for a joyful concert of carols and Christmas music.
It promises to be an uplifting afternoon of singing and togetherness at Seend Community Centre near Devizes. The singing will be led by our Music for the Mind leaders across Wiltshire, and we will be joined by Devizes wind ensemble Mistral.
Doors open at 2pm with the singing starting at 2.30pm. Please join us!
Tickets at £6 each (£3 for under 16s) are available below. Or you can book by phone at 01380 739055.
Bar, Refreshments, including mince pies and home-made cakes
Please note – ticket sales for this event will end at 5pm on Tuesday 28th November.
There’s a verse from a song in the animated movie Coco that goes, “Remember me though I have to travel far. Remember me each time you hear a sad guitar. Know that I’m with you the only way that I can be. Until you’re in my arms again, remember me.” Make this Christmas extra special for these folks with dementia. They may not remember it soon after, but the feeling will stay with them, and with you, for a long time. Get your tickets to the concert here now.
