The 17 Annual Photography Auction and Exhibition

Do you collect art, love a bargain, or care about social justice? There is something for everyone in this auction of over 200 prints and books. Included are works of renowned international photographers, locally-beloved and accomplished photographers.

Brattleboro, VT Some of celebrated photographer Mark Shaws most beautiful work was shot for Vanity Fairs iconic lingerie advertising campaigns, with a series of images created over a ten-year period in the 1950s. Shaw is also internationally acclaimed for his photographs of the John F. Kennedy family, as well as those of Audrey Hepburn and a host of other celebrities. His work with Life magazine included 27 covers, and he was regularly featured in Harpers Bazaar, Madamoiselle, McCalls, Ladies Home Journal, and many other magazines. Shaw worked in both print and film until his untimely death in 1969 at the age of 47. In 1996 Shaws only child, David Shaw, and Davids wife, Juliet Cuming, founded The Mark Shaw Photographic Archive. Thanks to their generosity, one of Shaws Vanity Fair photographs is part of the In-Sight Photography Projects 17th Annual Photography Auction & Exhibition, opening Friday October 2.

Through the support of photographers from around the world, In-Sights Auction has grown into the stunning and diverse event that it is today. More than 200 generous photographers and collectors donate to help In-Sight students each year. This years Auction includes works from renowned photographers such as Larry Fink, Robert Flynt, David Hilliard, Justin Kimball, Rebecca Lepkoff, O. Winston Link, and Ivan Massar, as well as locally beloved and accomplished photographers Robert F. George, Michael Poster, Christine Triebert, John Willis, and many, many more.

Subjects, mediums, sizes, and techniques vary widely, and price ranges appeal to all audiences, from sophisticated collectors to art-loving bargain hunters.

The Auction & Exhibition opens at the Vermont Center for Photography, 49 Flat Street in Brattleboro, Vermont, with a reception on Friday, October 2, from 5:30-8:30 pm. It ends Sunday, November 1, with a reception from 3:00-6:00 pm. In between, the exhibit is open to the public daily, from 12:00-5:00 pm.

Bidding takes place on-line and is open to collectors and enthusiasts all over the world. Auction winnings are shipped when requested. Setting up a bidding profile is quick and easy, and we are happy to help. Bidding is available from October 2 at 5:30pm through November 1 at 6pm.

Proceeds from the Auction support In-Sight Photography Projects scholarship fund. When you place a bid, youre not just entering to win a remarkable print, you are helping area youth grow into positive, active members of their communities, says Program Director Zachary Stephens. He is a professional photographer who started his photography career 16 years ago as a scholarship student at In-Sight, and knows firsthand the value of the auction.

Since its founding in 1992 by photographers John Willis and Bill Ledger, In-Sight has served an estimated 3,500 youth. In-Sight Photography Project teaches photography to youth ages 11-18, throughout southeastern Vermont, regardless of their ability to pay. In-Sight offers students a creative voice and outlet, tools for self-awareness and self-worth, and the encouragement to become actively engaged in their communities. In-Sight is also the home of Exposures, a cross-cultural youth exchange program that uses the arts to promote connections among youth from diverse communities around the country, including the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
