FOUR town acts will be raising money and awareness for road safety charity Brake at The Brook Inn on Bank Holiday Sunday (August 30).
The family of a young Redditch woman who died in a car crash on the B4086 travelling towards Stratford from Wellesbourne in May 2007 have organised The Big Brake charity gig and hope the money raised will go towards preventing another road death or to support a bereaved family. Performing live will be Sugar Mama, Drunk Lovers, Sinners and Saints (acoustic set), singer Johny C and urban street dancer Adriano featuring Drew. Rob Smith, 17, bassist and backing vocals in Sugar Mama, said: “As soon as we were asked by the family to perform we knew we wanted to do it. “We want residents to come along, enjoy a good night of entertainment and raise money for a fantastic cause.” Brake, the national road safety charity, exists to try and stop the eight deaths and 79 serious injuries that happen on UK roads every day and to care for families bereaved and seriously injured in road crashes. It supports road crash victims through a helpline (0845 603 8570), face-to-face support and other services. Rob, who performs with Sam Anderson and Scott Dolphin, described Sugar Mama’s sound as rock and blues playing a mixture of their own songs and covers from Fleetwood Mac, Rory Gallagher, David Bowie and The Beatles. There will be no charge on the door but donation buckets will be placed around The Brook Inn, Elcocks Brook. Brake aims to prevent death and injury on the roads through education of all road users as well as care for people bereaved or affected by serious injury in a road crash. During the night of the Brake charity gig only, TLC Taxi Service will be offering a special taxi rate with a 25 per cent reduction to and from the gig. Anyone wishing to book a taxi should call 01527 596670. As part of the charity event, The Brook Inn management have kindly decided to include a barbecue of which all contributions will be given to Brake. The charity gig will begin at 8pm and for more information call 01527 543209. Anyone wishing to get in touch with Brake should log onto www.brake.org.uk.
