Friday, 22 May 2009 THE organiser of a charity event has thanked generous residents after raising £2,300 to support wounded soldiers.
A signed Barrow AFC football and a photograph of Manchester United captain Gary Neville were among the collectibles available at an auction at Haverigg Working Men’s Club, which attracted more than 600 people. All proceeds have been donated to the Help for Heroes cause. Event organiser Neville Bagshaw, 73, said: “I want to thank all the businesses and organisations who contributed to the auction. “The authenticated picture of Gary Neville made £150 on its own. Over 650 people attended, coming in and out throughout the event. I also want to say thank you to the band Revival who played. One of the lads from the band did the auction for us and the band were excellent.†Mr Bagshaw has three grandsons in the military and says the Help for Heroes charity is close to his heart.
The charity was set up to support wounded soldiers from all the country’s armed services.
