This special Open Forest event will provide an opportunity to see actual results of stewardship and conservation practices planned and successfully implemented by Plymouth landowner Don Raymond, in woodland typical of Southeastern Massachusetts. Representatives of state and federal agencies involved in these forestry, conservation and financial assistance programs will be on hand to answer questions. Preregistration is not required, but is recommended and appreciated. Those who register by May 9 will receive a free copy of either The Woodland Owner’s Guide or A Guide to Invasive Plants in Massachusetts at the event. Registration will be held from 8:15 to 9:50 a.m. and the race begins at 10. Post race activities include: Kid’s Fun Run, food by Bertucci’s, live music by the Fortune Pandas, raffle and awards. Registration and post race festivities will be held at Bertucci’s Italian Restaurant, at 6 Plaza Way. The race course starts and ends on Plaza Way. The total race purse is valued at $1,000. The overall Men’s and Women’s Division top three finishers will receive $125-$85-$55, respectively, paid in Bertucci’s certificates. There are seven age divisions for both men and women. The top three finishers in each age group will receive $20, $10 and $5, respectively, paid in Dick’s Sporting Goods certificates. Each race participant will receive one free entry in the raffle. Additional raffle tickets will be sold during registration. An LCD flat screen TV, donated by Best Buy at the Independence Mall, is one of the raffle prizes. PACTV of Plymouth and MCT of Marshfield will film the race to be cablecast from Weymouth to Plymouth. The goal of the Plymouth Manomartian 5K Road Race/Fitness Walk is to provide summer camp access to 50 Plymouth children who would otherwise not be able to attend. The late-June to mid-August day camps, run by the Town of Plymouth Recreation Department, cost $150 per child and are held at Briggs Field and Stephens Field. The race will raise funds for the Recreation Department’s gift account to assist families that cannot afford to send their children to camp. PLYMOUTH &ndash Rita Johnson, this year’s adult ambassador for the South Shore Arthritis Walk, invites all to sign up for the charity walk, which will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Nelson Park in Plymouth. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. and the Walk is at noon. There will be activities for both people and dogs of all ages and levels of fitness. (Dogs get arthritis, too.) PLYMOUTH &ndash The annual Cordage reunion will be held this year from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the Plymouth Cordage Museum, Cordage Commerce Center, Plymouth. The principal purpose of this occasion is to bring together former Cordage workers or their families, but also to reunite many present or former residents of North Plymouth. Anyone else interested in meeting and greeting old friends or in learning more about the Plymouth Cordage Historical Society is welcome.
