Town Talk staff • May 14, 2009 All proceeds from fifth annual Central Louisiana Firemen and Brother’s Keepers Benefit Ride and Barbecue on Saturday,
May 16, will benefit a camp for children who are burn victims. At 8 a.m. Saturday, the gates at the Veterans of Foreign War post on Veterans Drive in Alexandria will open, and registration for the ride will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The “blessing of the bikes” will be at 10:30 a.m., with the ride leaving at 11 a.m. The bikes are expected to return at noon for the barbecue dinner. Cost for participating in the ride is $25, and $15 if someone is just riding. The registration includes a T-shirt, official ride pin and lunch. The cost for those just wanting lunch is $7. Pineville Fire Prevention Officer Casey Cummings said the event is family-oriented and open to the public. The area fire departments are so passionate about this charity, he said, because it is another way for them to help the community out, especially those affected so personally by a fire.
“Often times those that are being helped through these things are people that we dealt with on a call,” Cummings said.
