A MAJOR sporting event could inject hundreds of thousands of pounds into the local economy and attract Olympic hopefuls.
The Llandudno Triathlon on July 12 will see competitors from Europe and the UK, including British team members, flocking to the town. Among them former Oldham professional rugby league player Mike Holden who now specialises in triathlons after having retired from the sport through injury. “He’s now a really keen triathlete who raises lots of money for charity though his efforts,” said event organiser Simon Hill. Around 500 competitors are expected. “Most of them will be accompanied by friends and family, and as registration is on the Saturday and the event takes place on the Sunday many of them will be booking accommodation in the town,” he said. All three phases of the event will start and finish on North Shore promenade.
“It should make quite a spectacle and we’re hoping lots of people will turn up to watch,” said Mr Hill.
