ONE of the world’s most renowned bands Coldplay will lend their pulling power to Sydney’s Sound Relief bushfire benefit concert.
As more home grown and overseas stars offer their support for the charity concert, 21 fires are continuing to burn out of control in Victoria. The charity event, held at the SCG on Saturday, March 14, will also see The Presets, Eskimo Joe, You Am I, Josh Pyke, Hoodoo Gurus and a reformed Icehouse all donate their services. Midnight Oil, Hunters and Collectors and Split Enz will reform and perform at the Melbourne leg on the same day, with artists including Kasey Chambers and Paul Kelly. Rock bands Wolfmother and Jet will fly interstate to perform at both events, with the Sydney proceeds split between the bushfire appeal and Queensland flood victims, while Melbourne’s proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross. A fire in Daylesford which was threatening homes yesterday has burned through 2800 hectares and firefighters were battling with spot fires last night. A fire tanker was destroyed yesterday but no homes were affected.
Concert organisers are hoping the twin concerts – labelled by Victorian premier John Brumby as “the single largest music concert event in our country’s history” – will raise up to $5 million dollars.
