Shooting from the charity stripe in the Polk Community College gymnasium, Baird, a student at Brigham Academy, connected on eight of his 15 free
throw attempts to clinch the boys 11-year-old title. Lyons won the 12-year-old crown by connecting on six of his 15 shots. Lyons attends Jewett Elementary School. Both winners earned certificates and advanced to the district Free Throw Championship. “We congratulate Noah and Charles on their impressive victories on the council level of competition and wish them the best of luck as they go on to compete in the district round,” said Bob Connell of Knights of Columbus Council 7091, chairman of the annual event. “We thank PCC for making its fantastic basketball facility available to us and are indebted to coach Furjanic for his cooperation and valuable assistance,” Connell said.
The Free Throw Championship is a major youth initiative of the Knights of Columbus. Each year, more than 200,000 young basketball sharpshooters participate in local competitions around the United States.
