Though many people think that we’ve seen the worst of Covid-19, there are experts who claim that its toll on mental health continues. For instance, there are studies pointing to the increased rates of depressive symptoms among men. Thus, the need to be well-informed is more pressing than ever.
HeadsUpGuys, a website resource helping men to better prevent and manage depression is holding an event on Feb 23 called Sip Around the World. Taking place at The Pipe Shop, this event mixes whiskey tasting with conversations on men’s mental health.
Why are we hosting this event?
• Suicide is the #2 killer in Canadian men aged 15-44.
• Men account for 3 out of 4 suicide deaths in Canada
• In Canada 8 Men die by suicide every day, that’s 3000 men per year.
As a group of guys in our mid 30’s, we want to stand up to have the important conversation around the topic to help support our brothers, friends and sons.
Our goal is to bring 150 influential people together to remove the stigma, and promote mental health awareness by sippin’ on some whiskey, having meaningful conversations and raising $100,000 for HeadsUp Guys.
All funds will support HeadsUp Guys, a local organization focused specifically on men’s mental health. Together, we can make a difference and continue to support HeadsUp Guys vision and mission to lower suicide in men, which is currently a top 5 cause of death.
