Military veterans, revered for their service and sacrifice, face unique challenges as they transition from the battlefield to civilian life. These men and women, who have dedicated themselves to the defense of their nation, often encounter a range of struggles that can impact their physical, mental, and social well-being. From the physical wounds sustained in combat to the invisible scars of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the difficulties of reintegrating into society, veterans face formidable obstacles. The Royal British Legion, as a stalwart charity, recognizes the importance of addressing these issues and providing lifelong support to ensure that veterans and their families receive the care, assistance, and recognition they rightly deserve.
In light of these challenges faced by military veterans, the Royal British Legion stands as a beacon of support, advocating for their welfare and providing vital services to ensure a better quality of life. Through their comprehensive programs, the Royal British Legion aims to honor the sacrifices made by veterans and help them navigate the often complex journey of transitioning to civilian life with dignity and support.
As veterans strive to overcome their struggles and regain a sense of purpose, organizations like the Royal British Legion recognize the importance of fostering resilience and camaraderie among them. In this spirit, the Castaway Survival Challenge offers an exciting opportunity for veterans to come together, test their skills, and build strong bonds through a thrilling and immersive adventure that celebrates their indomitable spirit.
Challenge yourself with the Castaway Survival Challenge – a week-long adventure to learn survival skills, get back to nature and explore the remote coastal woodlands of a mystery location in the Lake District.
This is a completely unique way to raise the funds needed for the Royal British Legion to continue our work supporting serving and ex-serving military personnel.Paddle by canoe from a remote beach to a secluded woodland. You’ll build a camp there with your fellow castaways and start your survival skills training led by our expert survivalists.
Whether you come in a group or on your own this is the perfect adventure for anyone looking to get back to nature.
Led by a survival expert your group will learn the basics of wild camping and over the course experience:
Canadian canoeing
Natural shelter building
Bushcraft and survival skills

Fun challenges, plus lots more
At the close of the week there will be a medal ceremony and celebratory lunch with your campmates, and a short service at the Ravenglass memorial with a moment to reflect on why you took on this incredible challenge for the Royal British Legion.
