The first New Ipswich Children’s Fair was held during the Civil War in 1861.
The concept of the fair originated with Mr. Quimby of Appleton Academy and Reverend Cutler of the New Ipswich Congregation Church. The fair was held in the fall and the children brought in the best of their harvest. These items were auctioned off and the proceeds were given to the charity or organization specified by the child. The fair’s theme has not changed over the year. It is an old fashioned church fair that truly has something for everyone. The proceeds from the fair are used to fund a variety of programs and organizations that benefit children. I have been privileged to co-chair the garden shop for many years and it is gratifying to see the same families return to my area. Their children grow and they bring their children. The fair is held at The at 156 Main Street in New Ipswich. Approximately 250 volunteers and countless hours of planning make this the town’s premier event, not to be missed. Booths and Events:
