Elim Christian Centre on Manchester Road &ndash which is used by 30 different nationalities &ndash has masterminded next month’s Southport International Festival.
A day of carnival-style fun is promised on Sunday, September 13, when Lord Street will be turned in a colourful, multicultural party. Senior minister Malcolm Hathaway said: “This will be a community and charity event for all the family. “Negative perceptions and fears sometimes affect the international community and we believe this event will do much to promote social harmony and integration. “It also provides an opportunity to celebrate Southport’s character and values and its quality of life as a leading resort in the North West.” The festival will begin with a procession at noon from the Magistrates’ Court along Lord Street led by Marshside Brass Band. Participants will wear national costume and wave their respective country’s flag.
A short civic address will be held at the town hall as a fantastic programme of afternoon events gets under way in the centre of Lord Street.
