It’s a chance to get some great deals while helping others.
Arc of the Three Rivers, a local nonprofit agency offering services for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is holding its second-annual TEAM Auction & Jazz Event at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 at West Virginia State University. TEAM is an acronym for “together everyone achieves more.” TEAM Retreat 2009 is set for Sept. 22 to 25 at Cedar Lakes in Ripley. Sixty individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities will have the opportunity to participate in classes ranging from photography and dance to crafts and relationships. Craig Wagoner, executive director, said many clients have never had the opportunity to take a vacation. So, the camp will serve as a mini-retreat where they can have fun, interact with others and learn new skills. The number of clients in need of services continually increases along with costs, he said. “We are beginning to create a culture of fundraising to meet needs,” he said.
The organization receives federal and state funding and raises additional money.
