Get involved FRIENDS and family of a Cardiff man who died from heart failure eight years ago raised more than £10,000 in his memory.
Welsh rugby starts Ryan Jones and Shane Williams were guests at the Alun Jenkins memorial fund golf event and dinner at Wenvoe Castle golf club and the Hilton Cardiff. Mr Jenkins, a rugby-mad 30-year-old, died in November 2001 from a heart condition called cardiomyopathy. Since then his closest friends and family have been raising money for the Cardiomyopathy Association to fund patient support and public awareness campaigns. This year’s event brings the total raised over the past eight years to more than £110,000. Gafyn Stiff, from Miskin, the event organiser and lifelong friend of Alun, said: “Alun was an amazing person who did not let his illness stop him enjoying life, right up to the end. Despite the debilitating effects of his condition, he remained active and as physically fit as he was able.” WalesOnline, the best source for Welsh news, sport, business and entertainment.
