Auction raises housing money

STATE COLLEGE &mdash For almost three hours Friday evening the rapid-fire speech of an auctioneer at work captivated the audience at the Ramada Inn.

CDT/Melissa Doss The American Dream Housing Fund Auction, held by the Centre County Association of Realtors, drew more than 200 people to the conference center as they came to bid on items large and small in the name of charity. Local real estate agent Derek Canova said the American Dream Housing Fund initiative was an “effort to change the landscape and mentality in this area” by highlighting the need for affordable housing in Centre County. “We want to make a change,” he said, and an impact on those in the community who may be struggling to find a home. Michael Dillard, who volunteered his services as auctioneer for the evening, said he believes in what the association is trying to do.
“This is a testimonial to what we do,” he said in reference to the support shown by the community.
